Announcing Fall Open House Panel of Alumni Entrepreneurs Making a Difference

We’re excited to share the line-up of panelists for our Fall Open House event on the Los Angeles campus, Saturday, October 26, 2019. Our “Entrepreneurs Who Make a Difference” panel brings together FIDM Alumni including: Elin Dannerstedt, Co-Founder of NCLA Beauty; Kristen McAtee, Social Media Personality; Courtney Bui, Co-Owner of The Long Dog Clothing Company; and Dominique Aimee Jean, M.D., Founder of Haute Healing.

The four graduates will share their entrepreneurial ventures and their efforts to make a difference in the fashion, beauty, and design industries. Students will have ample opportunity to network and get their questions answered from the successful, enterprising leaders.

Elin Dannerstedt, a graduate of the Merchandise Product Development Program, co-founded NCLA Beauty with her sister in 2010, with a collection of nail wraps and nail lacquers. The clean, 7-free, and vegan formulas quickly gained a celebrity and media following. The beauty brand went on to collaborate with iconic names such as Beyoncé, Hello Kitty, Disney, and Barbie.

Social media personality and Merchandising & Marketing grad Kristen McAtee began her career in the field of fashion and merchandising and later turned toward vlogging. McAtee has 1.17 million YouTube subscribers where she posts a variety of entertaining content, and 1.4 million Instagram followers. She recently did a collaboration with Goodwill.

Merchandise Product Development grad Courtney Bui co-owns The Long Dog Company which donates 15 percent of proceeds to dog shelters and organizations each year. "With my design background, and pattern making and sewing skills from FIDM, I made a few prototypes that we tried on our dogs and found that we had a good product on our hands," Courtney said. "We thought other dog owners might be into this, and after 11 prototypes, and using our older basset mix, Lincoln, as a fit model, we were up and running."

Grad Dominique Aimee Jean is a board certified physician and president of Haute Healing, a non-profit that gives head-to-toe makeovers to chronically ill, terminally ill, and disadvantaged teens and young adults.
